When resources are limited and daily tasks become overwhelming, the Homemaker Program provides essential support. For 70-year-old Janet, the program has helped her remain stable and connected rather than isolated.

Janet spent 41 years married to her husband, Gary. He worked as a service manager at a diesel engine company, and Janet built her own career as an optician—a role she enjoyed and took pride in. After Gary became bedridden, Janet retired early to care for him full-time. Living on a fixed income, the couple could not afford outside help or transportation for daily needs. At that point, Partnership’s Homemaker Program stepped in, assigning social worker Kendra Brabham to assist with essential tasks.

Kendra visits weekly to help with groceries, medication pickups, meals, and other daily needs. After Gary passed away in 2024, she continued working with Janet and providing consistent
support.

“Kendra keeps me in touch with the outside world and makes sure I have everything I need,” Janet shares. “Without her, I’d probably starve to death.”

“She has done everything for me,” Janet reflects. “Especially when Gary died. I was really depressed for a while. It’s still depressing.”

“We’re all going to get old,” Brabham explains. “At some point, this could be any of us waiting for someone to help with things we can no longer do on our own.”

“Many of the seniors and disabled adults we serve are at high risk of becoming homeless without this support,” Kendra notes. “Partnership’s Homemaker Program helps them remain stable and
safely housed with dignity.”

“Partnership’s Elder Support Services receives some government funding, although the funding has not gone up in 10 years while the elderly population has soared – something Newsweek calls
‘the Silver Tsunami’,” says Joy Key, Director of Stability Services. “With the increased demand for our services, support from our community makes the Homemaker Program possible.” Key adds
that Partnership maintains a waitlist of seniors and disabled adults who need in-home support and could be served with additional resources.
