During the Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclamation Reading, Partnership for Families, Children and Adults presented its inaugural Founders Award to Chairman Sabi “Doc” Kumar for creating and advancing legislation that strengthens protections for survivors of domestic violence.

The award recognizes individuals whose service and advocacy reflect the mission and values established by Partnership’s founders. Chairman Kumar was honored for his commitment to improving public safety and championing legislative efforts aimed at preventing domestic violence and supporting victims and their families.

The presentation took place as community leaders, advocates, survivors, and elected officials gathered to mark the beginning of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and reaffirm a shared commitment to ending domestic violence in the community. Among those in attendance was Kim Dodson, mother of Savanna Puckett, whose tragic death inspired the legislation that became known as Savanna’s Law.

Partnership leaders noted that Chairman Kumar’s efforts have helped bring greater attention to the needs of survivors and have advanced meaningful policy changes that strengthen protections for those impacted by domestic violence.

The proclamation reading serves as an annual call to action, encouraging community members to raise awareness, support survivors, and work together to prevent domestic violence.
