Kimberly first learned about Partnership through her father, who is a social worker. After years of abuse and an assault by her husband, Kimberly called our 24/7 Crisis hotline for herself.
“It was the scariest but best decision I ever made in my life,” says Kimberly.
At our Crisis Center, Kimberly completed a domestic violence exam and connected with a Community Case Manager. Her case manager helped her contact Child Protective Services, understand the legal process to obtain an order of protection, and complete the necessary paperwork to ensure their safety. Then, when she was ready, Kimberly was encouraged to begin counseling.
According to Kimberly, the team at Partnership provided her with compassion, structure, guidance, and focus. “When I was at my lowest moment, the staff at Partnership gave me the confidence to fight for myself when I thought I could not.”
Since Kimberly and her children lost their housing when they fled, Kimberly’s case manager assisted with housing, and Kimberly and her children were able to move into a home of her own.
“Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults has been a launching pad for me to become more independent and able to flourish,” says Kimberly.
Today, for the first time in a long time, they are not fearful. Kimberly works as a hairdresser and tells us she and the kids are excited about the holidays and their plans to spend time with her family in the area. As for the kids, “They are doing great! They are in therapy and are much happier.”
