When Andrew finished receiving instructions on the new electric bikes (e-bikes) for our Extended Foster Care Program (RCYC) youth, he was so excited that he asked to ride one of the bikes all the way to the RCYC house—12 miles away!
Each of the seven e-bikes is equipped with an electric motor and battery that assists their pedaling or can propel the bike without pedaling, making it easier to get to work or school. This is especially important because, previously, these young men had to make long walks to a Chattanooga bus line and then use several buses to reach their destination. The time spent traveling was considerable and limited their employment options.
These seven e-bikes will make the lives of these young men much easier by providing faster and safer transportation to and from school and work, and by opening doors for employment opportunities that are not on the bus line.
Our thanks go to Publix Charities and Silverdale Baptist Church for gifts that allowed us to purchase these high-quality e-bikes.
